It was mile 99.85 of a 100 mile ultramarathon…

More specifically, it was the Heartland 100 ultramarathon… in the middle of nowhere Kansas.

What did I learn over the previous 25 hours and 56 minutes of continual forward progress?

I learned that the main difference between a one mile run, a 5k, a half-marathon, full marathon, Ironman triathlon and an ultramarathon was ONE thing.

What was it?

It’s this. Are you willing to be uncomfortable and if so, for how long?

Is it 5 minutes… 5 hours… or in my case, it was just under 25 hours and 57 minutes.

If you are willing to be uncomfortable, you have a personal and professional advantage over all of the other people who want what you want, but aren’t willing be uncomfortable.

Embrace the suck. You might surprise yourself.
