“YOUR COMPANY SUCKS!” Your customer is mad and telling everyone on the Internet who will listen.
And, since there is no erase button on the Internet, those bad reviews don’t go away. You know the type…
The reality is that they probably had a bad experience with ONE employee who didn’t do a great job. Maybe that individual wasn’t trained or lacked skills. Perhaps they were trained, weren’t the right fit, and wouldn’t do what they were taught. Maybe the job was asking them to be somebody they weren’t.
To the mad customer… that ONE employee WAS your company!
This makes human resource professionals cringe. They see this stuff coming a mile away. Unfortunately, their calls to raise pay (to attract more high-quality applicants) and INCREASE applicant screening and pre-hire evaluation often fall on deaf ears.
They hear things like “We need more warm bodies… like yesterday” instead. And, “No, the pay is fine.” “Our hiring process is already too long, costs too much and maybe we could cut a few steps.”
Remember… it is expensive to be cheap in business and problems like this can often be solved before they occur. There’s no downside to raising your standards when it comes to employee selection, development and retention.
