I was in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday night and went out for a steak. I got to see a live “job fair” in action too. Both were well done.
Are you having problems finding workers? Consider ATTRACTING them instead.
Here’s how it went down…
The young lady at the greeting station was “grace under pressure” (friendly, calm, polite) and she had the unfortunate task of telling everyone there was a 1 hour and 45 minute wait. The service, once seated, was fast, friendly and the food was great.
Here’s what I thought was smart though.
They put on a SHOW for a LARGE and more importantly, a CAPTIVE audience.
Workers (likely college students from Friends University, Newman University or Wichita State) wore T-shirts that said “I LOVE my job” and the smiles they wore along with their shirts confirmed it.
Every so often, a song would come on and a bunch of the servers would line up and dance through the crowd. They looked like they were having fun. If they weren’t, none of them showed it.
They had “little billboards” (the size of of a business card) promoting their job openings stacked at the reception area where everyone checked in… and KEPT checking to see how much their wait time was shrinking.
And, you don’t have to be a math major to figure out that 20-25% tips on steak dinners and alcohol add up… fast.
They didn’t have to tell an entire applicant pool (or job referral pool) comprised of customers, that they would love a job there and make a lot of money.
This particular Texas Roadhouse in Wichita, Kansas showed them.
