I came across this old picture… from my Army days… and it got me thinking.

I wrote about many of the leadership lessons I learned during that time in my book – Inclusive Leadership: Unleashing the Power of People.

What I DIDN’T talk about in that book was this. During all my years in the Army, I learned a LOT about “what TO do” from the leaders I served under and almost all of them were EXCELLENT examples.

I also learned “what NOT to do” from a few others who weren’t.

I learned from all of them.

If you are leading a team, department or company, remember that people are always looking at your example… and learning from it. Teach them well!

P.S. – Yes, that was me as a young Lieutenant in 1993 talking to Missouri Governor Mel Carnahan in Ste. Genevieve, MO during state emergency flood duty.
